NARRATIVE TEXT CHAPTER 8 PART 1

HI EVERYONE !
How are you, I hope you are in good and healthy condition, so this time I will discuss what a Narrative Text is, types, structure, characteristic and examples.

Definition of Narrative Text

Narrative text is one type of text that tells a series of events with a chronological system or interconnected. Narrative text is generally imaginative, aka not real or in the form of the imagination of the author.

Types of Narrative Text

Structure of Narrative Text

1. Orientation
In Indonesian, orientation means introduction. So, in the initial paragraph, narrative text usually contains the introduction of the characters and settings involved in the content of the story. In this case, the setting can be the scene as well as the time of the story.

2. Complications
This section will begin to enter the paragraph that tells about the beginning of the problem of an event or incident. Because it is chronological, the problems that arise at the beginning will continue to be a series of long storylines that contain conflict, climax, and anti-climax.

Oh yes, to make it easier for you, here's the arrangement in complications:

Problem, which is a paragraph or sentence that begins to lead to the problem of a story.
Conflict, more complex, after there is a problem, then the story will continue to conflict. In this section, the audience will be curious about what happened between one character and another.
Climax, which is the peak of the conflict which is the main focus in narrative text.
Anti-climax, in Indonesian, this section is also known as conflict reduction. So, the conflict will decrease slowly.
Solution, as the name implies, is a solution, so the paragraph in the solution section will explain the resolution of the conflict that has been described previously.

In this case, complications are divided into three conflicts, namely:
Natural conflict, natural or inter-universe conflict.
Social conflict, conflict between characters or actors.
Psychological conflict, inner conflict or self.

3. Resolution
Resolution is the end of the story or the conclusion of the story. This paragraph can be a further explanation of the solution. In this section, the writer can also describe whether the narrative text that is made will end with a sad ending or a happy ending.

4. Re-orientation
Actually, this structure is not mandatory in narrative text. However, generally the sentences in this paragraph will tell the final condition of the character in the story, or it can also contain lessons and moral messages that can be taken by the reader to be implemented in real life.

Characteristic of Narrative Text
There are several characteristics and characteristics of narrative text that you can use as a reference to distinguish this type of text from other texts. Its characteristics are:

1. Generally, narrative text tells a story that has happened in the past. Usually the narrative text is in the form of stories that are popular among the general public, such as the story of The Mouse-deer and Crocodile, The Rabbit and Turtle, etc. Surely you are already familiar with these two examples of narrative texts in English, right?

2. Narrative text is often divided into several sequels, both simple and complex. That is, there are several narrative texts whose stories are made continuously or continuously from one part to another.

3. As previously explained, one of the most striking features of narrative texts is that they aim to entertain the reader. In addition, there is also another goal is to share experiences with the audience.

Example of Narrative Text

The Legend of Salatiga

Many years ago there was a very honest sunan. He taught people about the meaning of life and about religion, he is known as Sunan Kalijaga. He traveled to spread his precious lesson.

One day, Sunan Kalijaga arrived at a village. Sunan went to the village chief’s house. Then Sunan Kalijaga asked for a job without telling his real name. The wife of the chief said he could help cut the grass.

Sunan Kalijaga started working by cutting grass to feed the chief’s horses.

Soon, the chief of the village realized that his employee was Sunan Kalijaga. The chief was extremely surprised. Then he decided to follow the lesson of Sunan Kalijaga.

To follow the lesson of Sunan Kalijaga, the chief had to leave everything behind. But the wife didn’t agree so she brought her jewelry in bamboo.

When the three of them were taking a rest in a village, a robber approached and took everything from the wife of the chief. Sunan said that this village would be full of people and really busy.

Then Sunan named the place Salatiga which means three wrong people. The three wrong people were the chief, his wife, and also the robber who love collecting things. And now, this village is known as Salatiga.
